FreeCast Inc. (NASDAQ:CAST) stock fell about 16% on Monday after short seller Fugazi Research published a bearish report questioning the streaming company’s valuation, financial health, and corporate governance.

Report Questions Valuation

Fugazi Research said FreeCast’s recent stock rally is disconnected from the company’s financial condition, arguing that CAST is “extremely overvalued” and “fundamentally of ZERO value” despite investor enthusiasm around its Starlink reseller announcement.

The report said FreeCast generated $92,909 in revenue in the quarter ended March 31, 2026, while incurring a loss of more than $4.5 million.

For the first nine months of fiscal 2026, revenue totaled $350,859, while net loss reached $10.18 million, meaning the company lost about $29 for every $1 it earned.

The company ended the quarter with $119,302 in cash, $8.12 million in total liabilities, a $205.4 million accumulated deficit, and a going-concern warning.

Fugazi also cited a $7.29 million working-capital deficit and said the company’s cash balance implied less than a week of runway at its current burn rate, absent additional financing.

Starlink Rally And Listing Structure

Fugazi said the June 18 Starlink Business reseller announcement helped fuel a sharp rally, but the agreement disclosed no contract value, minimum purchase commitment, exclusivity provision, revenue target, or signed customer.

The firm also said FreeCast’s direct listing created no lockup period for existing shareholders and did not bring meaningful operating capital into the business.

Insider Control And Dilution Risk

The report highlighted FreeCast’s reliance on CEO William Mobley and Nextelligence, saying related-party financing, preferred stock, voting control, and a material portion of reported revenue all flow through entities tied to Mobley.

Fugazi also pointed to a $50 million equity purchase agreement as a potential source of future dilution.

Broader company context remains weak, according to the report: FreeCast has minimal revenue, recurring losses, limited cash, a working-capital deficit, and an ongoing need for financing.

Fugazi concluded that recent promotional headlines changed the stock story, not the business, and said the company is more likely to keep relying on financing than create value for public shareholders.

Benzinga has reached out to the company for comment on the short report and is awaiting a response.

For more than two decades, passive investing has been a humble idea successfully marketed to the retail audience. It was a set-and-forget approach – not trying to outsmart the market but simply owning it.

Now, according to a growing camp of market critics, passive funds have become something far more consequential—they are the market.

The scale is difficult to ignore. Data compiled by Apollo Global Management Chief Economist Torsten Slok shows that the three largest S&P 500 index funds now control more than $2.6 trillion in combined assets. Vanguard’s flagship S&P 500 ETF (NYSE:VOO) recently crossed the $1 trillion mark on its own.

The trend means that an increasing share of investment decisions no longer belongs to analysts weighing earnings prospects or debating valuations. Instead, the capital flows mechanically through index-tracking vehicles that buy stocks simply because they are in an index.

“It’s a systematic algorithm that operates off of the world’s simplest algorithm: Did you give me cash? If so, then buy. Did you ask for cash? If so, then sell,” said Mike Green, Chief Investment Strategist at Simplify Asset Management.

The Structural Limit of Price Discovery

The argument challenges a foundational assumption of modern finance. Traditional theory, popularized by Nobel laureate William F. Sharpe, treats passive investors as essentially non-participants in price discovery. Green says that description no longer fits reality.

Index funds constantly trade to accommodate daily inflows and outflows, as well as periodic index reconstitutions. As passive ownership expands, those transactions increasingly dictate market prices.

The result, Green argues, is a market that has become highly inelastic, where each new dollar entering index funds has an outsized effect on valuations. His estimate puts passive ownership at roughly 54% of the market today (growing at around 4% annually), but the more provocative part of his thesis is what comes next.

Green believes markets have an outer structural limit somewhere between 75% and 83% passive ownership. Beyond that point, he argues, volatility would break the price discovery.

“If we get to that level of passive, effectively the market becomes so impossibly volatile that it becomes an inevitable event that it will eventually cause its closure,” Green said.

A Bifurcated Market

Whether that prediction proves alarmist or prescient, there is little debate that passive flows increasingly favor the market’s largest companies. Because index funds allocate capital according to market capitalization, the biggest stocks receive the biggest inflows regardless of whether their fundamentals are accelerating or slowing.

That dynamic has helped fuel extraordinary concentration in a handful of mega-cap technology companies, even as many active managers continue losing assets.

According to billionaire investor Bill Ackman, that distortion is increasingly visible.

“I think it is hard to make a statement on the overall market because it is really a bifurcated market,” Ackman said in a recent interview. “We’re finding a lot of really cheap stocks in a market that’s hitting new highs.”

He pointed out how investors’ attention remains fixated on semiconductors, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and the next wave of highly anticipated IPOs. Meanwhile, companies that would once have been considered growth darlings have become oddly unfashionable.

“Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) is an old-fashioned company today, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is an old-fashioned company today,” Ackman said. “Therefore, they’re less interesting, and the result is that those stocks are cheap.”

Ironically, passive investing removed emotion from investing. But when trillions of dollars flow automatically into the largest stocks, momentum can begin to masquerade as value.

For now, the machine continues to work. Every paycheck contribution, every retirement allocation, and every ETF inflow adds another brick to the structure.

But if capital continues chasing index weight rather than corporate value, the biggest risk may not be an incoming crash but rather a market that gradually forgets how to price anything at all.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) has agreed to acquire AI coding startup Anysphere Inc. (“Cursor”), in an all-stock deal valued at an implied equity value of $60 billion, according to a Form 8-K filed Tuesday.

SpaceX To Acquire Cursor

On June 16, 2026, SpaceX, its wholly owned subsidiary X67 Inc., and Anysphere entered into an Agreement and Plan of Merger. Under the agreement, X67 will merge with Cursor, with Cursor surviving as a wholly owned subsidiary of SpaceX.

The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including required regulatory approvals. SpaceX expects the acquisition to close during the third quarter of 2026.

Deal Values Cursor At $60 Billion

At closing, each outstanding share of Cursor’s common and preferred stock will automatically convert into the right to receive shares of SpaceX Class A common stock.

The exchange ratio will be based on Cursor’s implied equity value of $60 billion and the volume-weighted average closing price of SpaceX Class A shares over the seven consecutive trading days immediately preceding the merger’s closing.

SpaceX Stock Performance

SpaceX stock rose nearly 5% in Tuesday’s premarket session as investors continued to buy into the stock’s powerful rally. The gains came even as broader market sentiment weakened, with Nasdaq futures down 0.17% and S&P 500 futures slipping 0.07%.

Airline stocks came under pressure Wednesday following a downgraded global profit outlook from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

IATA warned that airlines face mounting pressure in 2026 as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz triggers a severe fuel supply shock, weakens economic growth, and raises operating costs across the aviation industry.

In a new industry outlook, IATA said the disruption that began on February 28 removed about 10 million barrels per day of crude oil supply from global markets.

Including refined products and liquefied natural gas, the disruption affected roughly 15 million barrels per day of energy supply and briefly pushed crude prices toward $150 per barrel.

Jet Fuel Costs Surge

The aviation sector has been hit particularly hard. IATA said jet fuel prices have roughly doubled since late February, while jet fuel crack spreads reached a record $80 per barrel in April as refinery outages and constrained throughput tightened supply.

The association noted that Hormuz-linked flows account for about one-fifth of global seaborne jet fuel trade. Supply competition has intensified across Europe, the U.S. West Coast, and parts of Asia, increasing the risk of regional shortages and higher fuel costs.

Passenger And Cargo Growth Slow

IATA now expects global passenger traffic to grow 2.1% in 2026, a sharp slowdown from recent years. Higher fuel costs, airspace disruptions, and longer flight routes are weighing on demand, although consumer willingness to travel remains relatively resilient.

Regional performance is diverging. The Middle East is expected to face a significant contraction due to airspace restrictions, while Africa and Asia-Pacific could benefit from traffic rerouting.

Air cargo demand is also slowing. IATA forecasts cargo volumes will rise just 0.7% in 2026 as the conflict disrupts hub connectivity and limits available capacity.

Profitability Under Pressure

IATA expects industry profitability to weaken. Airline revenue is projected to rise 9.4% in 2026, but net profit is forecast to fall to $23 billion, reducing the industry’s net margin to 2%, the weakest level since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The association also warned that the energy shock is likely to slow global GDP growth to about 2.5% in 2026 from around 3% previously, while pushing global inflation above 5%, increasing the risk of stagflation.

Airline Stocks Retreat On Weaker Outlook

As of publication Wednesday, shares of Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK) fell 3.61% to $43.50, United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) declined 3.27% to $106.05, Frontier Group Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:ULCC) lost 3.46% to $6.13, American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:AAL) slipped 2.31% to $13.76, Delta Air Lines, Inc. (NYSE:DAL) dropped 2.36% to $79.25, and Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:LUV) shed 2.39% to $42.14.

Meanwhile, JetBlue Airways Corporation (NASDAQ:JBLU) fell 1.63% to $4.84, Ryanair Holdings plc (NASDAQ:RYAAY) lost 2.03% to $56.82, Copa Holdings, S.A. (NYSE:CPA) declined 1.62% to $133.18, SkyWest, Inc. (NASDAQ:SKYW) slipped 1.14% to $86.78, and LATAM Airlines Group S.A. (NYSE:LTM) eased 1.02% to $48.76, according to Benzinga Pro data.

AstraZeneca Plc (NASDAQ:AZN) is advancing its oral GLP-1 receptor agonist, elecoglipron, into an extensive Phase 3 development program after the drug delivered significant weight-loss and diabetes-control results in two Phase 2b studies.

The findings, presented at the 2026 Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association and published in The Lancet, support the company’s efforts to expand its cardiometabolic, renal, and weight-management portfolio.

Elecoglipron is an investigational oral, once-daily, small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the natural GLP-1 hormone. 

VISTA Trial Demonstrates Significant Weight Reduction

The VISTA study enrolled 310 adults with obesity or overweight and at least one related comorbidity. Participants receiving elecoglipron 75 mg achieved an average body-weight reduction of 10.5% at 26 weeks, compared with 0.6% for placebo.

Weight loss continued through week 36, reaching 11.8% in the treatment group versus 0.3% with placebo.

The trial also met its co-primary endpoint measuring the proportion of participants achieving at least 5% weight loss, with up to 88.8% of patients on elecoglipron reaching that benchmark.

Researchers also reported improvements in exploratory cardiometabolic measures, including reductions in blood pressure and C-reactive protein, a marker of systemic inflammation.

SOLSTICE Trial Shows HbA1c And Weight Benefits

In the SOLSTICE trial, which enrolled 404 adults with Type 2 diabetes, elecoglipron achieved an average HbA1c reduction of 1.9% at 26 weeks, compared with 0.2% for placebo.

Most patients receiving the treatment reached guideline-recommended glycemic targets. By week 26, 90% recorded HbA1c levels below 7%, while 85% achieved HbA1c levels of 6.5% or lower.

The treatment also produced an average body-weight reduction of 7.7%, compared with 1.7% for placebo.

Safety Profile And Next Steps

Across both studies, adverse events were largely gastrointestinal and generally mild to moderate in severity. The most frequently reported events included nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Discontinuations due to adverse events were uncommon, and investigators reported no liver safety signals. Hypoglycemia was infrequent in the diabetes study, with no serious cases linked to treatment.

The Phase 3 development plan includes the EMBOLD trials in obesity and overweight populations, as well as the ELUMINATE studies evaluating elecoglipron alone and in combination with dapagliflozin for Type 2 diabetes.

Additional studies will assess long-term cardiovascular and kidney outcomes.

On Monday, FuelCell Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ:FCEL) reported fiscal second-quarter results that missed analyst expectations for both revenue and adjusted earnings, reflecting continued operational and market challenges.

FuelCell Energy Earnings And Revenue

Adjusted net loss was 53 cents per share, compared with the estimated 52-cent loss. Revenue fell 5% year over year to $35.589 million, below the $40.496 million forecast.

Net loss attributable to common stockholders was $78.7 million, or $1.45 per share, versus $38.8 million, or $1.79 per share, a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA loss improved to $17.1 million from $19.3 million.

Revenue declined mainly due to lower service revenue, as no module exchanges occurred, and weaker generation revenue from reduced output during Groton Project repairs. Higher product and Advanced Technologies revenue partly offset the declines.

Segment Performance

Product revenue rose to $18 million from $13 million. Service revenue fell to $4.2 million from $8.1 million, while generation revenue decreased to $8.7 million from $12.1 million.

Advanced Technologies revenue increased to $4.7 million from $4.1 million.

Gross loss widened to $12.9 million from $9.4 million. Operating loss rose to $77.9 million from $35.8 million, partly due to a $42.6 million noncash impairment tied to Groton Project equipment upgrades.

During the earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Michael Bishop said the increase in operating expenses was largely driven by a $42.6 million noncash impairment charge tied to the Groton project.

He said the charge reflects FuelCell Energy’s decision to upgrade the 7.4-megawatt Groton Navy project with its current-generation 2.5-megawatt power blocks to improve reliability.

Bishop emphasized that the investment is aimed at delivering dependable baseload power for a critical U.S. government asset and noted that, excluding the impairment charge, the company’s core operating expenses declined year over year.

Backlog And Strategic Updates

Backlog totaled $1.14 billion as of April 30, down 9.9% from $1.26 billion a year earlier. Generation backlog was $928.5 million, service backlog $155.4 million, product backlog $36.1 million, and Advanced Technologies backlog $15.4 million.

FuelCell reported a second-quarter sales pipeline of 4 gigawatts, up 267% from the first quarter.

The company shipped its first two carbon capture modules to Rotterdam, Netherlands, as part of its collaboration with ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Co.

ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Co. is the central research, development, and engineering arm of Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM).

FuelCell launched a standardized 12.5 MW FuelCell Energy Block to reduce time-to-power for AI and data center projects in grid-constrained markets.

The company continued expanding its Torrington, Conn., factory, lifting its annual production capacity target to 500 MW from 350 MW. The project is expected to cost $200 million to $275 million and be completed within 24 months.

“This past quarter reflected strong commercial momentum and disciplined operational execution across the business, including continued progress on our data center strategy,” said Jason Few, President and CEO of FuelCell Energy.

FuelCell Energy Balance Sheet And Outlook

Cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash totaled $440.9 million as of April 30, up from $341.8 million on October 31.

The company recorded $4.8 million in mark-to-market net losses on natural gas purchase contracts, classified as generation cost of sales.

FuelCell cited risks including economic uncertainty, interest rates, supply chain volatility, regulatory changes, commodity prices, government incentives, financing challenges, and bid-to-revenue conversion.

CEO Jason Few said FuelCell Energy’s project pipeline remains heavily weighted toward the fast-growing data center market. He noted that the company is pursuing opportunities across data centers, distributed generation, utilities, and industrial applications in both domestic and international markets, with potential data center customers accounting for about 89% of the overall pipeline.

One of Wall Street’s favorite commodity narratives is the link between copper and AI demand.

The demand logic flow is simple: AI requires enormous data centers; data centers require enormous amounts of copper; therefore, copper demand will keep rising.

On the other hand, rising capex, lower grades, and a lack of new large discoveries are hurting the supply side. It looks like a double whammy that guarantees success, yet reality is far more complicated.

While forecasts from S&P Global suggest copper demand from data centers and related infrastructure could rise from 1.1 million metric tons in 2025 to 2.5 million by 2040, those projections often assume a relatively static technological environment. In practice, AI infrastructure is evolving rapidly, shifting toward less copper-intensive solutions.

Two Key Narrative Flaws

The bullish argument begins with a valid observation of how metal-intensive AI facilities are. According to S&P Global, a crypto data center requires roughly 21 metric tons of copper per megawatt of installed capacity, while an AI training center can require as much as 47 metric tons. The difference reflects denser wiring, larger cooling systems, and dramatically higher power requirements. 

However, the difference between the announcements and actual deployment is considerable. The concept of “bragawatts” is increasingly present in 2026, as capacity figures look impressive in investor presentations yet face a substantial reality check in practice.

Reuters reported that Ireland imposed a de facto moratorium on new data centers after the sector ballooned to more than 20% of the national electricity demand. Policy interference and infrastructure constraints also limit the thesis of exponential expansion for copper.

The second flaw in the copper supercycle narrative is that engineers are actively trying to reduce metal usage. AI economics reward efficiency. NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) and other industry leaders are redesigning power architectures to move more energy with less material.

NVIDIA’s solution is a transition to 800 volts, where the same wire gauge can transmit around 157% more power. With fewer conductors, smaller connectors, and simpler designs, performance would be better even with less copper per rack.

Huang’s Pragmatic Transition

“You use optics wherever you must, [and] you use copper wherever you can,” NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang said at a trade show in Taipei, according to the WSJ.

Contrary to claims that copper will suddenly become obsolete, Huang argues for a hybrid model. Copper remains a practical, inexpensive, and proven technology within certain distance and bandwidth limits. Existing infrastructure will continue relying heavily on it for years.

He noted that copper will continue to play an important role in infrastructure, even as the use of optical devices expands rapidly in the coming years.

This coexistence model creates opportunities for firms positioned across both ecosystems. Huang has repeatedly highlighted Marvell Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRVL) as a key beneficiary because it supplies networking technologies that bridge traditional copper-based systems and advanced optical interconnects.

The Copper Wall at 400 Gbps

Copper’s transmission distance is inversely proportional to bandwidth. Today’s leading 200 Gbps-per-channel copper systems start to lose signal after only about 2.5 meters. Since modern server racks are about 2 meters tall, the margin is already becoming rather small.

Matt Murphy, CEO of Marvell, said copper cables will be unable to support complete rack connectivity as systems migrate to 400 Gbps speeds.

As bandwidth requirements continue climbing, electrical signals weaken faster and generate more heat. At some point, physics overwhelms economics.

Fiber optics and silicon photonics have become necessary rather than optional because they enable the transmission of data over far greater distances with minimal degradation.

Eventually, it doesn’t mean that the copper thesis is dead. One way or another, AI will increase copper demand. Still, the assumption of an unlimited copper supercycle ignores the realities of grid constraints, deployment delays, and relentless engineering innovation.

Gold prices are testing one of the most closely watched levels in technical analysis: the 200-day moving average.

After a blistering rally that carried bullion to record highs at $5,600 earlier this year, the metal has spent recent weeks consolidating and is now hovering directly above its long-term trend line.

For many traders, a break below the 200-day moving average is viewed as a bearish signal. Recent history suggests the opposite may be true for gold.

Gold’s Previous 200-Day Average Breakdowns Became Buying Opportunities

Spot gold – tracked by SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE:GLD) – changed hands near $4,500 per ounce on Wednesday, up roughly 1.5% on the day, after a multi-week pullback dragged it back down toward its rising 200-day average near $4,397.

The metal sits about 20% off the early-February peak above $5,600.

Data compiled from the last 10 occasions when gold fell below its 200-day moving average show that weakness has historically been followed by strong longer-term gains.

Across the full set of the last 10 episodes, forward returns strengthened the longer investors held: the average one-month change was essentially flat (−0.15%), but six months out, the average gain was 3.5% (70% positive), and one year out, the average was 8.4% with a 60% win rate and a return-to-volatility ratio of 0.57.

The signal sharpens after the 2021 chop. Filtering to the six most recent tests — from January 2022 through September 2023 — every single one was higher one year later.

Gold’s last six breaks below its 200-day moving average all produced positive returns one year later, generating an average gain of 17.3% and a median gain of 11.5%.

The takeaway: the 200-day line has repeatedly marked an opportunity rather than a top, even when the next few weeks stayed choppy.

The Sentiment Shift

“Gold is sitting right at its 200-day moving average,” Tavi Costa, founder of Azuria Capital, wrote in his latest note on Substack.

“The last time we were here turned out to be a great buying opportunity.”

Yet, the technical setup is only half the story.

A few months ago gold was one of the market’s most crowded longs; today, Costa says, it feels almost forgotten.

“I’m starting to get greedy while others are becoming fearful,” Costa said, riffing on Warren Buffett.

In a recent Kitco News interview, Costa framed the simultaneous selloff in gold and silver as a normal digestion of an outsized rally, not a broken thesis.

“The debasement of currencies and the hard-assets thesis remains as strong as it could be,” he said.

His core view — that fiscal deficits, compounding debt and currency debasement keep the structural bid under hard assets intact — has not changed, even as he flags rising populism and government equity stakes as fresh macro risks.

Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) heads into earnings, up more than 60% year-to-date, near all-time highs, but one investor believes the stock’s rally may be tied to a larger trend, not just cybersecurity.

According to Gabelli Funds portfolio manager John Belton, “a second ChatGPT-like moment” has unfolded this year as AI agents moved from research projects to real-world business tools generating tens of billions of dollars in annualized revenue.

That shift may be creating new winners beyond Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA) and other AI infrastructure names.

From AI Demo To AI Business

Belton argues that the market’s enthusiasm for AI accelerated after the arrival of more capable models and agentic coding platforms such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex.

The key difference is that AI agents are no longer viewed as futuristic concepts. They are increasingly being deployed across enterprises to automate software development, workflows and business processes.

As Belton put it, AI became “a revenue story, rather than just a research story.”

That transition has helped fuel a powerful rally across AI-linked stocks, from semiconductor makers to software companies.

Why Palo Alto Could Benefit

Unlike traditional software, AI agents are always-on, connected to multiple systems and capable of accessing large amounts of data. As organizations deploy more agents, they also create more identities, APIs and potential entry points for cyberattacks.
