The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed an improvement in the overall market sentiment, while the index remained in the “Greed” zone on Monday.

U.S. stocks settled higher on Monday, with the S&P 500 snapping a four-session losing streak and recording its strongest session since May.

Major indices recorded losses last week following weak jobs data, with the S&P 500 falling 2.4% to record its worst weekly performance since May 23, while the Dow dipped 2.9% to notch its worst week since April 4.

On the trade front, President Donald Trump threatened further tariffs on India, accusing the country of reselling discounted Russian oil at a profit on global markets.

ON Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ:ON) shares dipped more than 15% on Monday after the company reported its fiscal second-quarter 2025 results. Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE:TSN) reported better-than-expected third-quarter earnings and raised its FY2025 sales guidance.

On the economic data front, U.S. new orders for manufactured goods declined 4.8% in June versus a revised 8.3% gain in March.

Most sectors on the S&P 500 closed on a positive note, with communication services, information technology and utilities stocks recording the biggest gains on Monday. However, energy stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session lower.

The Dow Jones closed higher by 585 points to 44,173.64 on Monday. The S&P 500 rose 1.47% to 6,329.94, while the Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.95% to 21,053.58 during Monday’s session.

Investors are awaiting earnings results from Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT), Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) today.

What is CNN Business Fear & Greed Index?

At a current reading of 56.5, the index remained in the “Greed” zone on Monday, versus a prior reading of 56.1.

The Fear & Greed Index is a measure of the current market sentiment. It is based on the premise that higher fear exerts pressure on stock prices, while higher greed has the opposite effect. The index is calculated based on seven equal-weighted indicators. The index ranges from 0 to 100, where 0 represents maximum fear and 100 signals maximum greediness.

• Paymentus Holdings Inc. (NYSE:PAY) reported better-than-expected second-quarter financial results and raised its FY25 sales guidance. The company reported quarterly earnings of 15 cents per share, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of 14 cents per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $280.08 million, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $261.81 million. Paymentus shares climbed 4.2% to $30.56 in the after-hours trading session.

• Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR) reported better-than-expected financial results for the second quarter and raised its full-year guidance. Palantir reported second-quarter revenue of $1.004 billion, beating analyst estimates of $939.71 million. The company reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of 16 cents per share, beating analyst estimates of 14 cents per share. Palantir shares jumped 4.6% to $168.00 in the after-hours trading session.
• Analysts expect Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) to post quarterly earnings of 49 cents per share on revenue of $7.41 billion after the closing bell. AMD shares rose 1.2% to $178.90 in after-hours trading.

Electric vehicle company Lucid Group Inc (NASDAQ:LCID) is likely to highlight its growing vehicle lineup and delivery goals when the company reports second-quarter financial results after market close Tuesday.

Here are the earnings estimates from analysts and key items to watch.

Earnings Estimates: Analysts expect Lucid Group to report second-quarter revenue of $296.2 million, up from $200.6 million in last year’s second quarter, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

The company missed revenue estimates in the first quarter, but has beaten estimates in four of the last five quarters.

The revenue estimate would see Lucid’s highest quarterly total, surpassing the fourth-quarter 2023 total of $257.7 million. If Lucid hits the estimate, it would also mark four straight quarters of quarter-over-quarter revenue growth.

Analysts expect the company to report a loss of 21 cents per share, down from a loss of 29 cents per share in last year’s second quarter. The company has beaten analyst estimates for earnings per share in three straight quarters and five of the last 10 quarters overall.

Key Items to Watch: Lucid has already reported second quarter production and delivery figures ahead of the quarterly results. The company produced 3,863 vehicles in the second quarter, up from 2,212 vehicles produced in the first quarter.

Lucid delivered 3,309 vehicles in the second quarter, which was below analyst estimates of 3,611, but came in above the 3,109 deliveries in the first quarter.

Lucid has highlighted a goal of a total production of 20,000 vehicles in 2025.

Analysts and investors will closely watch to see if Lucid stands behind its production and delivery goals for the year or updates its guidance.

Ahead of the financial results, Lucid’s shares traded higher after the company announced a strategic partnership with Uber Technologies (NYSE:UBER) and self-driving company Nuro. The partnership will result in a robotaxi service built using the Lucid Gravity SUV, launching in a major U.S. city next year, with additional global markets to follow in the coming years.

The partnership sees plans to scale to 20,000 Lucid vehicles and for Uber to make a multi-hundred-million-dollar investment in Lucid.

Investors and analysts will be hoping to hear more details on this partnership, what the investment from Uber could mean, and the timing of it. Investors and analysts will also want more color on these 20,000 vehicles, including when they will be produced and how they factor into guidance.

Lucid has the Air and Gravity vehicles available with more versions of the Gravity coming later this year. Investors and analysts would love to hear more about vehicles planned for 2026, which could include the mid-size lower-cost SUV that has been reportedly called Earth.

LCID Price Action: Lucid stock is flat at $2.42 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $1.93 to $4.43. Lucid stock is down 20.1% year-to-date, with shares up 15% in the last month.

Electric vehicle company Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:RIVN) could illustrate the fallout from the end of federal EV tax credits when it reports second-quarter results Tuesday after market close.

Here are the analyst earnings estimates, what analysts are saying ahead of the report and the key items to watch.

Earnings Estimates: Analysts expect Rivian to report second-quarter revenue of $1.29 billion. That’s up from $1.16 billion in last year’s second quarter, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

The company has beaten analyst estimates for revenue in two straight quarters and eight of the last 10 quarters.

Analysts also expect the company to report a loss of 65 cents per share in the second quarter. In the second quarter of last year, Rivian reported a loss of $1.13 per share.

The automaker beat analyst estimates for earnings per share in two straight quarters and seven of the last 10 quarters overall.

What Analysts Are Saying: A high valuation and shrinking government subsidies led to JPMorgan analyst Ryan Brinkman singling out Rivian as a short idea for the second half of 2025.

Brinkman said Rivian represents a disconnect between expectations and reality.

With high cash burn and EBITDA losses, Brinkman sees a potential struggle for Rivian to overcome rising tariffs and the loss of EV subsidies in the future.

Without government support, the entire electric vehicle sector could see pressure. That means increased competition and potential poor stock performance for companies that are not yet close to profitability.

UBS analysts maintained a Neutral rating on Rivian ahead of the earnings report. They raised the price target from $12 to $13.

The analysts point to the upcoming 2026 launch of the R2—expected to be priced around $45,000—as a key reason to maintain a long-term positive outlook on Rivian, especially given that affordability remains a top concern for potential buyers.

Key Items to Watch: With Rivian expanding its factories ahead of the R2 launch next year, there aren’t many catalysts that can move the stock as much as the new vehicle launch.

Rivian recently announced it will establish an East Coast headquarters in Atlanta. The company also announced the construction of a new service center in Quebec to support its Canadian expansion strategy.

The company has already announced second-quarter production and deliveries. It produced 5,979 vehicles and delivered 10,661 cars. Rivian reaffirmed a full-year guidance of 40,000 to 46,000 vehicles delivered.

Investors and analysts will likely want to hear more about this year’s guidance and next year’s and what the impact of the removal of EV tax credits could mean. Along with lower incentives for consumers to buy vehicles, Rivian may lose a key revenue stream of ZEV credit sales that other automakers purchase. In 2024, ZEV credits were worth $325 million for Rivian.

A recent report said Rivian’s July sales were up 20% from June and, while down year-over-year, represented the company’s best monthly sales total since September 2024. Any commentary on strong demand in July and from now on could help with updated guidance and offsetting lower production by the company in late 2025.

Without a major update on the R2 or improved guidance for 2025 or initial 2026 guidance, investors may head for the exit and await more positive catalysts for the EV company next year.

RIVN Price Action: Rivian stock was up 0.2% to $12.41 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $9.50 to $17.14. Rivian stock is down 6.3% year-to-date in 2025.

Airbnb is likely to post “a modest beat” in its second-quarter results, given third-party data and stable nights growth reported by Booking Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:BKNG), according to BofA Securities.

The Airbnb Analyst: Analyst Justin Post reaffirmed a Neutral rating and price target of $146.

Street estimates assume 7% bookings growth to $22.7 billion and 10% revenue growth to $3.03 billion, which Airbnb is likely to meet or beat, the analyst stated.

Surprising Trends: Nights Booked And Revenue Insights

Any quantifiable progress that management reports for the Airbnb Experiences app that was launched in May “could be positive for the stock,” he further wrote.

The recent analyst actions for ABNB depict a mixed sentiment among top-tier financial institutions. While UBS has shown a slightly positive outlook by maintaining a neutral rating and raising its target to $156.00, other firms like Morgan Stanley, Barclays, and Wells Fargo have maintained an underweight rating with relatively lower target prices. Truist Securities has shown the most bearish outlook by downgrading the stock to sell and lowering its target price.

ABNB Price Action: Airbnb shares were up 0.98% at $129.27 at the time of publication on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro.

The stock market is a terrific place to build wealth.

But investing in the stock market can be an unpleasant process with many unplanned, yet frequent setbacks. Here are some highlights:

• One-day declines of 1%-2% happen frequently.
• One-day sell-offs of more than 3% aren’t that unusual.
• Almost half of all days are down days.
• Extended pullbacks of 5% or greater happen multiple times an average year.
• The average year sees a max drawdown of 14%.

This is all in the context of the stock market usually going up.

“Despite healthy gains, the S&P 500 has seen more than 30 pullbacks of 5% or more since 2009,” Truist’s Keith Lerner observed on Friday.

The longer you’re in the market, the more inconveniences and disasters you’ll experience along the way. So you should always keep your stock market seatbelts fastened, and be prepared for those unpredictable downturns.

Major indices also recorded losses last week, with the S&P 500 falling 2.4% to record its worst weekly performance since May 23, while the Dow dipped 2.9% to notch its worst week since April 4.

Trade war concerns resurfaced after President Donald Trump announced sweeping new tariffs on countries without a formal trade agreement with the U.S. Key levies include 25% on imports from India, 39% from Switzerland, 20% from Taiwan, 30% from South Africa, 35% on Canadian goods, and a staggering 50% on Brazilian exports.

While July payrolls rose by 73,000—well below the 110,000 expected—revisions to prior months shocked markets: May and June payrolls were slashed by a combined 258,000 — the largest downward revision since 2020 — pointing to deeper cracks in the labor market than previously thought.

Shares of Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) fell more than 8% on Friday after the company reported second-quarter financial results. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) also lost 2.5% despite posting stronger-than-expected third-quarter results.

Most sectors on the S&P 500 closed on a negative note, with consumer discretionary, information technology and energy stocks recording the biggest losses on Friday. However, health care and consumer staples stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session higher.

The Dow Jones closed lower by 542 points to 43,588.58 on Friday. The S&P 500 fell 1.60% to 6,238.01, while the Nasdaq Composite dipped 2.24% to 20,650.13 during Friday’s session.
