Key Items to Watch: The report from Toll Brothers comes with the housing sector continuing to be a hot topic for investors.

New home sales have been dropping in recent months. Meanwhile, investors and homebuyers anticipate rate cuts later this year and pent-up demand for home purchases coming in the second half of the year or in 2026.

Toll Brothers’ earnings report also comes with one of the most famous investors of all time raising the stakes in the sector.

Warren Buffett recently unveiled new investments in the homebuilder sector via Berkshire Hathaway Inc’s (NYSE:BRK)(NYSE:BRK) quarterly filing.

In the second quarter, Berkshire Hathaway took the following new stakes in the sector:

• Lennar Corporation Class A (NYSE:LEN): 7,048,993 shares
• DR Horton Inc (NYSE:DHI): 1,485,350 shares

Along with the new purchases, Berkshire also increased its stake in Lennar Corporation Class B shares by 19%, the company’s second largest position increase by percentage in the quarter.

While Buffett didn’t buy Toll Brothers stock directly, there could be a trickle down positive impact for the entire sector with one of the most respected investors in the world betting big on the homebuilder sector.

Investors and analysts will be looking for strength in the company’s key metrics for the third quarter, including home sales revenue, delivered homes, net signed contract value and contracted homes.

Toll Brothers had a backlog value of $6.84 billion at the end of the second quarter with 6,063 homes in the backlog, figures that were down 7% and 15% year-over-year, respectively.

TOL Price Action: Toll Brothers stock is up 0.8% to $131.59 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $86.67 to $169.52. Toll Brothers stock is up 4.6% year-to-date in 2025.

As Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) reports second-quarter earnings Tuesday before the market opens, investors will get a glimpse of housing demand and key trends to track.

Earnings Estimates: Analysts expect the home improvement retailer to report Q2 revenue of $45.36 billion. That’s up from $43.17 billion in last year’s second quarter, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

The company has beaten analyst estimates for revenue in three straight quarters. It also beat estimates in six of the last 10 quarters overall.

Analysts expect Home Depot to report Q2 earnings per share of $4.71, up from $4.67 in last year’s second quarter.

The company missed analyst estimates in the last reported quarter. However, it beat earnings per share estimates in nine of the previous 10 quarters overall.

What Analysts Are Saying: Bank of America analyst Robert Ohmes estimates Home Depot will show improvement from the first quarter on Tuesday. The optimism comes from Home Depot’s growth in the professional segment.

“We expect HD to see continued share gains as it accelerates growth & capabilities w/ the complex pro,” Ohmes said in a new investor note.

The analyst reiterated a Buy rating and price target of $450 ahead of earnings.

Ohmes highlighted the company’s professional segment, which includes the recent acquisition of SRS Distribution. Home Depot recently announced plans to acquire GMS, which could complement the SRS business, according to the analyst.

The analyst said Home Depot is “well positioned in a choppy macro” environment.

“We expect HD to see continued share gains as it accelerates growth and capabilities with the complex pro, both organically and inorganically.”

Key Items to Watch: Data from Placer.ai shows visits to Home Depot improved in the second quarter. Data shows visits down 3.9% year-over-year in the first quarter and down 2.2% year-over-year in the second quarter.

This improvement, which includes the months of April (-1.9%), May (-1.1%) and June (-3.7%) could signal an improvement in visits and spending.

Placer.ai data highlighted strong visitor growth for Home Depot in regions like the Midwest and East Coast, which could help offset concerns around lower existing home sales.

Another area to watch will be tariffs. Benzinga notes that the company did not mention tariffs in its first-quarter earnings results, but an updated forward-looking statement mentioned the risks of tariffs.

The home improvement retailer reiterated full-year guidance of sales growth of 2.8% year-over-year and a total of $163.98 billion. The company’s guidance for earnings per share is $14.94 for the full fiscal year.

Analysts and investors will closely monitor whether these numbers remain in line with the company’s guidance or if weaker home sales and tariffs have led to revised forecasts.

A strong reaction to Home Depot earnings could prompt investors to keep a close eye on other stocks and ETFs. Peer company Lowe’s Companies (NYSE:LOW) is set to report second-quarter results on Wednesday.

Lowe’s has beaten earnings per share estimates from analysts in more than 10 straight quarters, while revenue has been split with five beats and five misses.

The SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average (NYSE:DIA) ETF will also be on watch, with Home Depot being the fourth-largest holding at 5.5% of assets.

Price Action: The stock performance for Home Depot and Lowe’s is nearly identical year-to-date. Home Depot shares traded at $395.65 on Monday, within a 52-week trading range of $326.31 to $439.37. Home Depot stock is up 1.7% year-to-date.

Lowe’s shares trade at $251.36 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $206.39 to $287.01. Lowe’s stock is up 1.9% year-to-date in 2025.

The cryptocurrency market is riding near-record levels for Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), but Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan believes several overlooked factors could still drive prices sharply higher.

What Happened: In a note to clients on Wednesday, Hougan pointed to improving regulatory clarity, growing stablecoin adoption, increased corporate treasury purchases, and steady institutional ETF inflows as widely recognized drivers of the current rally, according to The Block.

He added that Ethereum’s renewed momentum has helped reinvigorate altcoin markets.

Yet, according to Hougan, the real upside lies in developments the market has not fully priced in.

One such catalyst is potential government Bitcoin purchases.

Hougan said that while ETFs and corporate treasuries have been aggressive buyers, absorbing far more BTC than has been mined this year, government adoption remains limited.

Recent moves by Pakistan and Abu Dhabi have been small, but Hougan suggested that interest from central banks, including the Czech Republic, could turn into market-moving announcements.

Hougan also noted that Bitcoin’s resilience near all-time highs is occurring despite elevated interest rates.

Why It Matters: While traders expect some rate cuts by year-end, he argued that policy signals from the Trump administration suggest a deeper shift toward a weaker dollar and more aggressive easing.

The recent nomination of Stephen Miran to the Federal Reserve, an advocate for substantial rate reductions, could lead to more cuts than markets currently anticipate.

Another factor is Bitcoin’s declining volatility since spot ETFs launched in January 2024.

Hougan said this has made Bitcoin comparably stable to certain high-growth tech stocks, encouraging institutional investors to consider portfolio allocations of 5% or more.

ETF inflows have surged, with $5.6 billion recorded since July, and Hougan expects the pace to quicken in the coming months.

Lastly, Hougan highlighted a potential resurgence of initial coin offerings under the SEC’s “Project Crypto” initiative, which proposes tailored disclosures and safe harbors for ICOs, airdrops, and network rewards.

If implemented, Hougan sees this framework enabling a new phase of capital formation for crypto projects.

“The market is underestimating the scale of this bull cycle,” Hougan said. “These underappreciated catalysts could extend its momentum well beyond current expectations.”

Tapestry, Inc. (NYSE:TPR) will release earnings results for the fourth quarter before the opening bell on Thursday, Aug. 14.

Analysts expect the New York-based company to report quarterly earnings at $1.02 per share, up from 92 cents per share in the year-ago period. Tapestry projects to report quarterly revenue of $1.68 billion, compared to $1.59 billion a year earlier, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
