Home improvement retailer Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) could provide a gauge for home buying and choosing to refinance and repair when the company reports fourth-quarter financial results Tuesday before market open.

Earnings Estimates: Analysts expect Home Depot to report fourth-quarter revenue of $39.14 billion — up from $34.79 billion in last year’s fourth quarter, as reported by Benzinga Pro.

The company has beaten analyst estimates for revenue in one straight quarter and six of the last 10 quarters overall.

Analysts expect the company to report earnings per share of $3.00 in the fourth quarter. That’s up from $2.82 in last year’s fourth quarter. The company has beaten analyst estimates for earnings per share in more than 10 straight quarters.

What Experts Are Saying: Home Depot’s recent financial results haven’t done much to move the share price, Freedom Capital Markets Chief Global Strategist Jay Woods said in a weekly newsletter.

“Investors are hoping that slowing new home sales and higher mortgage rates lead to more home renovations that will help the company’s bottom line. Over the last four quarters results have barely oved the needle. The range has varied between -1.28% and +1.23%,” Woods said.

The market strategist said Home Depot stock is not in an ideal technical setup with a head-and-shoulders top formation.

In January, JPMorgan analyst Christopher Horvers said Home Depot has an advantage to rival Lowe’s Companies (NYSE:LOW) ahead of fourth-quarter financials.

“We believe HD is likely to outcomp LOW in 4Q,” Horvers said.

The analyst highlighted consumer trends, technology and the company’s acquisition of SRS Distribution as reasons for preferring Home Depot.

“HD continues to lead in terms of adopting technology to drive in-stocks and inventory productivity.”

Key Items to Watch: Same-store sales and revenue per visitor will be key metrics and come as a recent report from Placer.ai showed visitors to both Home Depot and Lowe’s down on a year-over-year basis in the fourth quarter.

For Home Depot, visits were down 2.6% year-over-year in 2024 with a 3% decline during the fourth quarter.

Lowe’s saw visits down 3.7% year-over-year in 2024, but recovered more in the fourth quarter with a 2.2% decline.

The Placer.ai report showed that Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and Black Friday are the three busiest days for the home improvement retailers. Black Friday, which falls in the fourth quarter, had 79.1% more visitors for Home Depot than their daily average.

This data shows that customers may be waiting for sales on these holidays to go to the retailers. Data showed Home Depot and Lowe’s had fewer return customer visits in the fourth quarter.

Home Depot’s third quarter saw sales growth of 6.6% year-over-year with comparable sales down 1.3% and customer transactions down 0.2%.

The company highlighted engagement for seasonal goods and outdoor products. With the fourth quarter having some seasonal challenges in certain markets, analysts and investors will be looking for commentary on what the highlights were for the company.

Home Depot raised its full-year sales outlook after the third quarter.

Analysts and investors will be hoping for more color on what’s anticipated in the next fiscal year.

Home Depot’s results and share reaction could have a trickle effect to Lowe’s, which reports quarterly results one day later on Wednesday.

ETFs that track the Dow Jones Industrial Average, like the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (NYSE:DIA), could also be volatile with Home Depot’s report.

The company is the fourth largest holding in the Dow Jones Industrial Average due to its share-price weighting.

Price Action: Home Depot stock trades at $383.66 versus a 52-week trading range of $323.77 to $439.37. The stock is down 1.2% year-to-date and up 3.3% over the last year.

Lowe’s shares are down 3.7% year-to-date and up 2.7% over the last year.

Both stocks trail the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust, which tracks the S&P 500. That ETF is up 2.8% year-to-date and up 18.8% over the last year.

Shares of Planet Fitness Inc (NYSE:PLNT) were rising in early trading on Monday, a day ahead of the company reporting its fourth-quarter results.

The company’s price hikes for new members are likely to be accretive, resulting in a 2.1% upside to the current consensus EBITDA estimate for 2025, according to RBC Capital Markets.

The Planet Fitness Analyst: Logan Reich maintained an Outperform rating and price target of $120.

The Planet Fitness Thesis: After the company raised the price for its base membership for new members by 50% last year, there has been debate about whether the price hike could more than offset a decline in new members, Reich said in the note.

RBC’s analysis suggests that the risk of a slowdown in new members is less than what is currently priced in, since only 3.6% of all Planet Fitness’ locations face competition from a cheaper competitor within a 1-mile radius, the analyst stated.

“And while 22% of PLNT locations had a cheaper competitor within a 5-mile radius, members typically only drive ~4 miles to a gym on average where driving just 2 miles further would be a 50% increase in driving time,” he wrote.

The analysis suggests consensus estimates could be raised by 1.2% for system sales and by 2.1% for EBITDA for 2025, Reich further said.

PLNT Price Action: Shares of Planet Fitness had risen by0.78% to $97.65 at the time of publication on Monday.

Nikola Corp (NASDAQ:NKLA) shares are trading lower by 30.1% to 26 cents Monday morning. The company last week announced it received a delisting letter from the Nasdaq. The company has also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware, seeking to auction assets while maintaining limited operations through March 2025.

What To Know: The electric truck maker has struggled financially, with its stock losing some 98% in the past year. Despite raising $300 million in December, its $47 million cash reserves were projected to last only until April 2024.

Nikola joins EV startups like Fisker and Lordstown Motors in financial distress as capital markets tighten and demand wanes. It reported assets between $500 million and $1 billion, with liabilities ranging from $1 billion to $10 billion, highlighting its deep financial troubles.

SPY is currently trading near our key level of 603.38. For the bulls, we need to see strength above this level, with a potential push towards 604.45. If buyers maintain control above 604.45, the next target would be 605.41 as a solid support zone. A breakout above 605.41 could propel the price toward 606.34, with an upside target for the day set at 607.55 if momentum holds.

On the downside, if SPY struggles to hold 603.38 as support, we anticipate a test lower to 602.37. If bearish pressure increases, we may see sellers drive the price further down to 601.22. A continued sell-off could lead to a test of 600.51, with the low bear target for the day resting at 599.24.

Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 (QQQ)

QQQ is trading near our key level of 528.44. Bulls will be aiming for a hold above this level to push the price higher to 530.70. If the buying momentum continues, the next area of interest is 532.52 as a potential support. A strong upside move could target 533.70, with a high bull target for today of 535.30 if strength persists.

If 528.44 fails as support, sellers could look to drive the price lower to 527.03. Further selling pressure may push the auction down to 525.19. If weakness continues, we could see a test of 523.91, with the low bear target for today at 522.57.

Apple Inc. (AAPL)

AAPL is trading near our level of 243.57. Bulls need to hold this level as support to drive the price higher to 244.45. If buying interest picks up, the next target is 245.58. Continued bullish activity could lead to a move toward our high bull target for the day at 246.72.

If 243.57 fails to hold during regular trading hours, we expect a move lower to 242.83. If sellers remain aggressive, the price could drop further to 242.21. Additional downside pressure may lead to a test at 241.23, with a low bear target of 240.23.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)

MSFT is trading around 409.69, a key level for bulls to maintain as support. A strong push above this area could target 410.64 as a next level. If momentum continues, buyers may aim for a rally toward 411.72, with a high bull target for today set at 413.14.

If 409.69 breaks, bears will likely target 408.46 for a move lower. If this level is broken down, we anticipate a test of 407.11. Should selling continue, further downside action may target 406.01, with a low bear target at 404.92.

NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA)
NVDA is trading near 135.64, with bulls needing to see strength above this level to push toward 136.98. If this level can be established as support, further upside could lead to 137.94. If bullish momentum remains strong, we could see a move toward our high bull target of 139.42.

If NVDA struggles to hold 135.64, we expect bears to target 134.56. Further weakness may bring 133.31 into play, with continued selling pressure potentially driving the price lower to 132.19. Our low bear target on the day is 131.42.

Alphabet Inc Class A (GOOGL)

GOOGL is currently trading near 180.46, and bulls will want to see support hold here for a push higher to 181.77. If buying momentum continues, we could see a rally toward our high bull target of 183.40.

If 180.46 fails to hold, sellers may drive the auction down to 179.15. Continued weakness could see a drop to 177.28, with the potential for heavy selling pushing the price toward our low bear target at 176.23.

Meta Platforms Inc (META)

META is trading around 683.97. Bulls will need to maintain support at this level for a move toward 689.09. If buying activity strengthens, we could see further upside toward 692.10, with the potential for a high bull target at 699.93.

If support at 683.97 breaks, we expect bears to target 679.79. A move lower could test 676.46, with continued selling pressure leading to a drop toward our low bear target of 671.80.

Tesla Inc. (TSLA)

TSLA is trading near 333.93, and bulls will aim for a push higher to 340.97. Continued buying strength could drive the price up toward 346.64. If a broader market rally takes place, TSLA could test higher at 350.87, with the high bull target for today at 356.80.

If support at 333.93 fails, bears will likely push the price lower to 327.59. A move down to 322.52 may occur on continued selling pressure, with a further breakdown leading to our low bear target at 315.93.

Final Word: Today’s session is relatively light on significant economic data releases. We’ll be watching the Chicago Fed National Activity Index at 8:30 AM ET and the Dallas Fed Manufacturing Activity at 10:30 AM ET. Key Items to Watch: Rivian previously reported fourth-quarter deliveries of 14,183, which was the company’s second highest quarterly total.

The company also finished 2024 with 51,579 deliveries.

All eyes will likely be on Rivian’s 2025 guidance and commentary as the company works through a plant shutdown in the second half at its Normal, Illinois facility to prepare for the production of the R2 SUV.

The highly anticipated R2 is expected to be a focal point, as its starting price of around $45,000 could position Rivian in more direct competition with Tesla and other automakers. Currently, Rivian’s vehicles are priced at higher tiers.

R2 production is expected to begin in the first half of 2026. Rivian could comment on the number of reservations it has for the vehicle and how the timeline for production is progressing.

Another area to watch will be Amazon’s electric deliver vans. The company previously had an exclusive deal with Amazon to deliver 100,000 vehicles by 2030. With over 20,000 vans delivered, Rivian has been a key partner with Amazon.

Rivian is also taking orders from other companies after ending its exclusive deal with Amazon. Investors and analysts would love to hear if any companies have signed deals or taken deliveries other than Amazon.

Another item to watch could be commentary on Rivian’s $6.6 billion federal loan for its Georgia manufacturing facility. The loan is now facing pressure from President Donald Trump’s administration, which counts rival CEO Elon Musk (Tesla) as a key figure.

Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has brushed off concerns that the current administration could hurt the electric vehicle sector. However, any indication that federal funding might not materialize could rattle investors, as it would hinder Rivian’s efforts to strengthen profitability.

RIVN Price Action: Rivian stock is down 3.3% TO $13.95 on Wednesday versus a 52-week trading range of $8.26 to $18.96. Rivian stock is up 6.1% year-to-date in 2025 and down 11.5% over the past year.
