One of the greatest ways to make money is to anticipate events.
For example, on May 14, 2020, we learned that 2020 was expected to be very active, with at least 16 forecasted tropical storms, eight of which could become hurricanes. With that, we highlighted several hurricane-based opportunities.
Those included:
Generac Holdings (GNRC), which exploded from $96 to $186 since we highlighted the stock. It could turn even higher as the storm season worsens. Remember, GNRC is a leader in power generation equipment and other light-motor equipment for residential and industrial customers. The company is the market leader in home standby generators and the leading global manufacturer of mobile generators for industrial use.
We also highlighted home improvement stocks, including Home Depot (which ran from $225 to $283), Lowe’s (which ran from $106 to $161), and Lumber Liquidators (which ran from $6.60 to $27.52.
This segment is “naturally positively exposed to preparation and recovery efforts,” says Morgan Stanley. These “typically see a boost in sales post-storm as damaged property is repaired.”
And we highlighted Xylem (XYL), a water service company that exploded from $57 to $79.40.
All could run even higher as the season escalates.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the season will be “extremely active” with 19 to 25 potential storms. “This year, we expect more, stronger and longer-lived storms than average, and our predicted ACE range extends well above NOAA’s threshold for an extremely active season,” NOAA said, as quoted by CNN.
“So far, Cristobal, Danielle, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine and Kyle have set records for being the earliest named Atlantic storms of their respective place in the alphabet. Only Hanna and Isaias have developed into hurricanes. Isaias weakened into a tropical storm before it hit the northeastern US.,” says the New York Post.
