On a per-share basis, the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of $4.04.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $3.81 per share.
The biotechnology company posted revenue of $10 million in the period, surpassing Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $9.6 million.
For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $789.6 million, or $14.31 per share. Revenue was reported as $44.7 million.
Bluebird shares have risen 0.5% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $88.22, a fall of 36% in the last 12 months.
