Delta Air Lines is on a mission…
Launching in November 2019, Delta Airlines is providing some new benefits to main-cabin economy passengers on international routes (6-hour flights and longer).
New services begin with how guests are greeted at the gatehouse, and at the boarding door. Here’s how it starts…
After being personally welcomed onto the flight, passengers begin their travel with complimentary hot towel service, and ‘Welcome Aboard’ drinks shortly after departure. Upon meal service, passengers are provided options from a ‘Bistro Menu’ of premium appetizers and entrees.
With a determination to make economy travel feel more upscale, additional post-meal coffee/wine service(s) will be added, and followed by a second hot towel service. In addition, pre-landing service will now include ‘Farewell Chocolates’ — a thank-you gift to leave a sweet impression after a long-haul flight.
Delta’s announcement comes at a time when competitor airlines like United are charging additional fees to economy passengers for items like carry-on baggage items, and basic in-flight services.
Economy Travel Upgrades to Encourage Customer Loyalty
Delta’s announcement comes after a series of economy travel upgrades they’ve rolled out this year.
In May, Delta launched Reclaim My Status. This offer allows past Delta travelers that have lost their Diamond, Platinum, Gold, or Silver Medallion status due to a “major life event” an opportunity to get it back for three months (without a fee). Serious illness or injury, parental leave, a job or career change, and caregiving are all considered potential major life events.
In mid-June, Delta upgraded their passenger amenity kits by adding Le Labo toiletries to business-class kits. They continued by upgrading the economy class passenger kits for international flights — a service that was previously discontinued after September 11, 2001.
Delta’s announcement to upgrade international main-cabin service is part of the airline’s multi-billion dollar investment to improve customer experience. Additional upgrade announcements to Delta One flights are expected later this year.
