Impeachment,
Ukraine, and the whistleblower are each three trending and interconnected
topics in the world of American politics. As these topics trend and make waves
in the press and on social media, different people have various outlooks and
opinions. However, being fully informed and aware of important details about
the impeachment whistleblower is beneficial to everyone.
Each
person, regardless of political ideology or affiliation, is entitled to their
own opinion. However, there are opinions and then there are facts. The
following facts about the impeachment whistleblower are imperative and worthy
of coverage, despite personal opinions on impeachment and President Trump’s
July 25, 2019 phone call with Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
The
Whistleblower Did Not Hear Trump’s Conversation with Zelensky
Contrary to what certain
people have been led to believe, the whistleblower did not hear the president’s
phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart. By the whistleblower’s own admission, their
memo came after having a conversation with a “White House official.”
Following the
aforementioned conversation, the whistleblower felt disturbed enough to write a
memo. The whistleblower’s memo played a significant role in Democrats’ decision
to launch an impeachment inquiry into President Trump; however, understanding
that the whistleblower was not privy to Trump’s conversation with Zelensky is
paramount.
Democrats Don’t Want the
Whistleblower’s Testimony During Impeachment Proceedings
There’s no denying the role which the
whistleblower’s allegations have played in the impeachment inquiry. Therefore,
many Republicans believe that the whistleblower should come forth, testify
before Congress, and answer questions under oath. However, Democrats have a
very different outlook.
Democrats’ maintain that allowing the
whistleblower to give congressional testimony would result in the GOP
attempting to insinuate Joe Biden or his son, Hunter BIden as culprits in
corruption with the Ukraine government. Of course, Democrats’ stance on this
matter has prompted immense conservative backlash. Many individuals who lean
right-of-center believe that having the whistleblower come forward is only
fair.
Social Media Sites are Banning
the Release of the Whistleblower’s Name
As the impeachment inquiry plays out, some
people are taking it upon themselves to learn the identity of the whistleblower
and release their findings. However, Facebook and YouTube aren’t standing for
it. Earlier this month, both social networking sites announced their decision to ban posts and
content which leak the name of the whistleblower.
Some Americans have censured this decision
from Facebook and YouTube, stating that President Trump reserves the right to
face his accuser. However, many critics of the president believe that
publishing the whistleblower’s name will place their safety and life in peril.
The Whistleblower Offered to
Answer House GOP’s Questions in Written Form
As calls for the whistleblower’s identity and
answers continue to mount, the whistleblower proposed answering inquiries from
House Republicans in written form. Through their attorney Mark Zaid, the whistleblower
expressed a willingness to provide written answers; however, House Minority
Leader Kevin McCarthy declined the offer.
McCarthy
stated that due to the gravity of impeachment and the nature of the
whistleblower’s accusations, they ought to “come before the committee” and
answer questions in person and directly.
