Do you use Facebook in the dark?
The company is working on a new mobile setup that could be easier on the eyes.
CNET reports that the existing Facebook mobile app is pretty bright, and technically, not built very well for nighttime user support.
However, social media journalists are writing about how a lot of Facebook users check the app on smartphones at night for everything from family pictures to the latest political gossip or just to dull the edges of insomnia.
Tech blogger Jane Manchun Wong explained how she came across indications that dark mode is coming…
“I came across this unreleased Dark Mode in Facebook’s mobile app for Android by looking into the code underneath,” Wong writes, “which indicates Facebook has recently started implementing the long-awaited Dark Mode into their mobile app.”
Early news on Facebook’s dark mode shows that it’s likely to feature text on a dark background, rather than the fluorescent white-space environment the app currently offers.
Other New Facebook Programs
Not all of Facebook’s recent platform changes have been so popular.
A recent plan to offer a specialized “Kid’s messenger” functionality seems to have gotten tangled up after regulators got their hands on it.
Then there’s also Facebook’s prominent plan to release a Libra stablecoin supporting in-app payments, which has similarly been stopped in its tracks by the ire of legislators.
Look for dark mode and more to arise out of the Facebook developer’s kettle in the months to come.
